DJ BASURA

DJ BASURASan Jose, CA.

Electronic – ‘80s – New Wave – Indie – Hip Hop – Punk – Industrial – Goth – Experimental

Michael Boado, known as DJ Basura, is an industry veteran, both as an eclectic DJ and an encyclopedic collector with decades under his belt.

Boado was first exposed to DJing in the early ‘90s by his older cousins, who’d play house parties and school dances. His introduction to the art form began when he blended an instrumental breakbeat with Prince’s “Diamonds & Pearls.” As he was building his chops in high school, his tastes transitioned from hip-hop to the indie and new wave sounds of New Order, Depeche Mode, and the Smiths—but also moody, electronic sounds of Stereolab, Portishead and Bjork. That fascination led to deeper electronic and experimental territory like Aphex Twin, Skinny Puppy, Merzbow, and Throbbing Gristle.

His tenure with record stores started as a clerk at Sam Goody as a teen. He later transitioned to Streetlight Records, where he became the store’s electronic music buyer. He has been Needle to the Groove San Jose’s general manager since the shop opened.

During his lengthy, distinguished career as a DJ, which began with a residency at an oxygen bar in San Francisco, he’s been featured in URB magazine and had the chance to play alongside a distinguished, eclectic array of bands and DJs, including the Growlers, Peanut Butter Wolf, She Wants Revenge, Flying Lotus, Tycho, Com Truise, Nosaj Thing, Passion Pit, the Rapture, Prayers, Kat Von D, Hella (Death Grips), Capital Cities, The Bravery, The Heavy, Egyptian Lover, The Crystal Method, Dum Dum Girls, Nite Jewel, the Plastiscenes, , Treasure Fingers, La Luz, Daedelus, Kill the Noise, LA Riots, Zombie Nation, Designer Drugs and more.

His indie/electro monthly party, The Workout, ran for over 5 years and featured guests like Classixx, Le Castlevania, and The Juan MacLean (DFA Records). Most notably, Boado was at the helm of the ‘80s new wave / indie dance party Atomic, a successful weekly that ran for over a decade at downtown San Jose’s Blank Club. He’s currently a co-proprietor at the NTTG Ent, LLC and the Ritz, a nightclub in San Jose known for its punk leanings. Boado gigs regularly in and around the San Francisco Bay Area.

New Limited Cassingle From DJ Platurn

By |05/29/2019|Blog|

In honor of its 1-year anniversary, here are 2 unreleased tracks from Breaking The Ice, one an unreleased edit entitled NY Underground and the other a produced track featuring all Icelandic sources courtesy of my brother Kicker Dixon and DJ Platurn, pka The Midnite Sons, and featuring Icelandic MC Cell7 on the vocals, a joint reminiscent of a forgotten 90s downtempo track that still bangs to this day.

These 2 tracks have also been released on limited cassingle tape courtesy of Strictly Cassette and will be available as a free copy for a limited time when you purchase the full length tape or the digi-book CD via Needle To The Groove HERE!

Enjoy!
